It is flu season! Like many countries around the world, Jamaicans are not speared the onslaught of the flu during the winter season or cold months of November to February because of the various irritants such as pollens, and other environmental factors that increase during this time.
There are a few medicinal plants that Jamaicans consider staple and tout as very effective in their attempts to stave of the common cold or flu virus. Three of these medicinal plants are: Jack in the Bush or Jackini Bush (Scientific Name: Eupatorium Odoratum), Rice and Peas Bush and Vervain.
How to Make this Simple Flu Potion
Ingredients
9 leaves of dried Jackini Bush
12 leaves of dried Rice and Peas Bush
9 Leaves of dried Vervain
2 Cups of Water
Sugar (optional/to desired taste)
Blue Vervain or Vervain
Method
Add the dried leaves to the two cups of water
Bring the combination to boil for at least 6 minutes
Turn off/remove from flame.
Allow to steep for two minutes
Sweeten if desired; It is best to sweeten with honey or have without sugar, however,
Pour in a 7 Ounce Cup.
Consume!
Jamaicans usually drink any kind of medicinal teas for 3, 7 or 9 mornings. This remedy is usually consumed over 7 days.
