Jamaica boasts a wide range of medicinal plants. Many of these plants are known and used for their efficacy against the common cold or flu. The Spirit Weed is one such plant that has been used traditionally to combat the flu virus. It grows wildly in rural areas where there is moderate to consistent amount of rainfall.
Besides its potential to combat the common cold, Spirit weed is used to treat individuals who suffer from epilepsy (fits). The plant has also been grounded in Jamaican folklore and hence, its name spirit weed.
Spirit Weed is used as a spice in Mexican cuisine. It's called culantro (not cilantro) and I think it is called Chadon Beni in Trinidad. Yummy!
